We design, pack and deliver

Why is it worth outsourcing packaging instead of investing in your own packaging line?

Every manufacturing company sooner or later faces the question of whether to invest in its own packaging line or entrust packaging to an external partner. It may sound like a dilemma, but for many companies, the answer is becoming increasingly clear — packaging outsourcing is faster, more flexible and more cost-effective.

High initial costs: a packaging line is about more than just the machine

Investing in your own packaging line involves not only purchasing the technology but also constructing or adapting suitable premises, recruiting and training operators, covering maintenance and servicing costs, meeting compliance and certification requirements — particularly in the food, cosmetics and dietary supplements industries — and dealing with significant delays. Several months may pass between the approval of the investment and the actual launch of the line.

Example:
A smaller company wants to package its own protein powders. The cost of the packaging line and related technology could exceed €250,000. By using co-packing services, the company could bring the product to market for a third of the cost and six months earlier.

Speed and flexibility: outsourcing saves time and effort

External packaging gives you immediate access to the necessary technology. You do not have to wait for the delivery, installation or testing of a packaging line. A co-packer already has the expertise, capacity and workforce in place.

It also enables you to respond quickly to market changes, test new packaging formats — such as samples or limited editions — and launch seasonal campaigns without lengthy planning.

Investment risk and return

Your own packaging line is a long-term commitment. If demand falls or the product fails to succeed in the market, the return on investment may be at risk. With co-packing, on the other hand, you pay only for the work that is actually carried out. No fixed costs and no risk of unused capacity.

Saving space means more room for production

If you are already struggling with limited space, your own packaging line will take up valuable floor space that could otherwise be used for production. Outsourcing frees up this space and increases the overall efficiency of your operations.

Focus on what you do best

Building a packaging process requires time, expertise and staff. Packaging outsourcing allows companies to focus on what matters most — product development, manufacturing and sales. You can leave packaging to professionals who specialise in it.

When does outsourcing really make sense?

  • If you are launching a new product and want to minimise risk.
  • When you do not have enough space or staff for packaging.
  • If your production is growing rapidly and you do not want investments to slow down your growth.
  • For short-term campaigns or limited editions.
  • When you want to save time and reduce costs.

Investing in your own packaging line makes sense only if you have a stable, high and long-term production volume. In most other cases — which includes the vast majority of growing companies — packaging outsourcing is the most efficient solution.
